This week Mary sent over an awesome article covering the basics of auto-responders and list-building!

An autoresponder is a key component to list building. People often don’t realize that emails they are receiving are actually coming from an autoresponder. Chances are that you have gotten emails from an autoresponder at some point. An autoresponder is an email marketing tool that sends pre-programmed email messages in a series at a pre-determined intervals to a list of subscribers and also allows the list owner to send broadcast messages at anytime to all of the subscribers on the list. This allows you to continue building a relationship with your subscribers and helping them to feel good about you and the products or programs you are recommending to them.
Here are some definitions of terms related to autoresponders and list building:

1) What a list is: a "list" is a group of names and email addresses that you have gathered by having them opt in to your autoresponder series of messages; the list is accumulated by your autoresponder so you can have on-going communication with your subscribers. Your autoresponder keeps track of the list, so you don’t need to have a spreadsheet or write them down anywhere.

2) Why you want to build one: in order to glean a targeted market out of general Internet users to build a relationship with them to gain trust and familiarity so they will follow your recommendations about purchasing products or services you are promoting. Because people are relationship oriented, marketing is all about how people feel. When people feel good about a spokesperson or mascot representing a product, they are more likely to purchase.

3) What a subscriber is: a person who has opted in to an autoresponder series of messages to give permission to have the messages sent to their email address.

4) What "opt-in" means: this is when a person agrees to give permission to have an autoresponder series of messages to be sent to their email address by entering their name and email address into an opt-in box or send a request to the list.

5) "Opt-in" box: this is a box that can be found on a webpage with name and email fields that someone can fill in to subscribe to an autoresponder series of messages.

6) "Send a request to the list": a person can send an opt-in request to a list by sending an email to “listname@autoresponder.com” where "listname" is the name of list that you created and this will automatically generate an “opt-in” confirmation .

7) “Opt-out” means to unsubscribe to your list. There are two ways for subscribers to unsubscribe to your list: a) They can click on the "opt-out" link at the bottom of all of your messages (this is required to be included in autoresponder messages) or b) They can email you and request to be "taken off of your list" - in this case, you will search your subscribers and find their name and email address and unsubscribe them from your list manually.

8 ) SPAM: SPAM is considered to be unsolicited emails. You cannot SPAM anyone. You can only email people who have emailed you first or who have given you permission to email them by 1) giving you their email address or 2) including their email address in correspondence sent or given to you.

An autoresponder is a powerful tool to use to help you build a list of subscribers so that you can promote products or services that you recommend to them.

Putting together “How To” information with tips and instructions about a topic you are passionate about is a great way to make money from something that you love. One way to effectively promote your “How To” information is to customize it for a specific demographic or target audience. You can create more interest in your “How To” information by understanding what your target audience is looking for and what will appeal to them and provide that in your information. This is a little like having a better chance at catching fish by knowing the feeding habits of a particular type of fish and getting the right bait in the right place and time as opposed to using bait that will appeal to any kind of fish. If you better understand what your target audience is looking for, you will better be able to provide something that they want and need in order to get a response.

Think about how you would give someone directions to a destination differently depending on their needs. You may know several different ways to get to the destination, but if they are new to the area and do not know their way around, you would give them easy to follow instructions so they have less chance of getting lost. If they are in a hurry and want to get there fast, you would give them the fastest way to get there even if it was a little more complicated. If they are concerned about getting there safely, you would give them directions that would help them avoid unsafe areas even if it may take them longer to travel. You would customize your directions based on what will work best for the person wanting to reach the destination.

You should take the same approach to effectively promote your “How To” information. If you are passionate about cooking, for example, you could target people who are busy and want to find recipes that take less than 30 minutes to prepare. In this case, you would put together a collection of recipes that are fast and easy. You could also target people who are trying to save money with a collection of recipes that cost less than ten dollars to make. Another option is to target people who want to “cook like grandma” for holidays and special occasions with old-fashioned, made-from-scratch recipes. No matter which approach you take, you want to put your information together to meet the needs of your target audience.

Customizing your “How To” information to reach a target audience is an effective way to get, sustain and build interest in what you are offering by providing them with something that they want. You can create several versions of your “How To” information that are customized to appeal to different demographics and groups of people. How do you know which group to target? You can research what products or information materials are popular related to your area of interest and research the type of people who are interested in them. You can tell a lot about what people want by what they are buying. You can also research what products and information materials are being promoted through higher priced, prime advertising spots related to your area of interest to tell what people are buying. Other companies are not going to continue to pay high costs for ineffective marketing, so regular marketing is a clue that a company is finding success. Start researching products and information materials related to your area of interest to find out more about what demographic or audience you can effectively target with your “How To” information. You will have a better chance at finding success by giving people what they want and need in the area of interest about which you are passionate.

Finding your passion is the best way to tap into the drive you need to really find true success. But once you have discovered your passion, then you need to try to figure out if there is some way to make money from it. The ways to make money with some passions are obvious. If your passion involves creating something, you could sell your creations, like art, for example. But if your passion does not involve actually creating something you could sell, you may not realize how you could make money with your passion. Many people overlook their ability to sell the knowledge they have about their passion. “How To” information with tips and instructions about a topic are a great way to make money from something that you love.

One of the reasons people overlook their ability to benefit financially by their knowledge about a topic is because they do not see themselves as the expert in the field. They falsely believe that there are already plenty of books and information on the topic that people could find and their “two cents worth” is worth only, well, two cents. This could not be further from the truth.

If you know more about something than someone else and you are sharing what you do know, you are the expert to that person in that moment. Think about when someone approaches you to ask you what time it is. How many resources are there in the world that could accurately tell them, to the millisecond, what time it is? You certainly are not the ultimate expert on the current time of the day, are you? There may even be a big clock programmed by GPS satellite time just around the corner. But in that moment, to that person, you are the expert because you are the only resource they are using. People most often use resources that are right in front of them, not the ones that are the best or most knowledgeable.

Think about all of the books there are in the library. How many of them have been written by scholars and the very best in their field? How many of them have you read? How many of them have the average person read? Compare that to how many people have watched the evening news. People use resources that are the most accessible. They turn to what is convenient for advice and information, not necessarily what is most accurate or informative.

This is good news for you. You can be that person with the watch in the street telling people “what time it is,” so to speak, about your passion even though there are other experts with more experience and more knowledge just around the corner. You can be the expert to that person in that moment by making your information more accessible to them than other experts. Your information about your passion can become more valuable than other’s information by making it easier to access. You can do that by putting together your information, “How Tos,” tips and advice and then letting people know about it. How do you let them know about it? You do that with media placement. Start today putting together the knowledge you have about your passion so you can share it with other people. You will be amazed and how much you know about your passion and how helpful it is to other people who see you as an expert. Sharing what you know about your passion is a great way to find success with something that you love.
Finding your passion is about more than just fulfilling your cravings or desires. There is a difference between passion and desire. Passion that comes from your natural tendencies, or what can be called “purpose,” is not dependent on your circumstances. You can tell the difference between the two because of how you feel when you do the activity. Doing activities inline with your passion that comes from purpose will make you feel energized, alive and make you want to continue the activity even more. You can lose track of time, become obsessed and maybe even have to give yourself time limits on how much you engage in the activity. You are like an addict.

On the other hand, doing activities that fulfill desires that are circumstantial can make you feel satisfied and content. The more you do the activity, the more satisfied you become and less interested in continuing the activity. One example of this is the love of babies or small children. Someone whose passion is to be around them might want to run a daycare center or be school teacher, whereas, someone who wants to be a parent will feel that deep desire fulfilled by birth or adoption.

Your true passion is like a soul-mate activity. It is the thing that makes you feel alive when you do it. Recognizing your passion that comes from purpose, or your natural tendencies, can often happen if you think about what you would want to do if you had all of your needs and desires met. If you had all of the money in the world, finished traveling and had all of your wishes and desires fulfilled, what would you want to do with your time?

Some people say they have a dream or passion about something at which they are not very good. Just look at the American Idol tryouts. Everyone thinks they are the best. But they often have not taken any time to learn or train to be the best. They have a desire but not a real passion. People who find their true passion often want to be good at what they love. Wanting to learn more and putting forth the effort to do so is a natural part of pursuing your passion.

This is why passion is such a crucial part of success. It is like a natural river of drive and energy you can ride toward your goal of success. One way to ride that river is to find a way to be successful with the passion itself. If you love to paint, learn to be the best you can be and find a way to make money painting. You would have a better chance of finding success than if you love painting and you become a waiter. Another way to ride that river is to find a way for success in one area to allow you to engage in your passion. If you love to travel, but cannot find a way to make money from it, find another way to make money and then use it to travel. Either way, finding your passion is the best and strongest motivation to find success. Any successful person you meet can tell you in a heartbeat what their passion is and how that helped them find success. Find your passion, and let your passion drive you to success.
The following is a new article Mary's posted at articlebase.com Apparently it's been an exciting year at Global Cash Flow Network and Mary's Certified Media Placement Specialist Program's Students couldn't be happier. With the advice Mary gives in this article, I'm sure you can understand why:

One key component to the ability to find success is to find your passion and pursue it. But what does that mean to find your passion, and how do you go about finding it? Another way to say it is, “What do you love most in life?” What brings you the most fulfillment? What would you do if you had all the money in the world, you were done splurging and traveling abroad and you could just spend your time doing what you want to do? Most of us already know the answer to that. But for some of us, there is a mental block that keeps us from truly realizing it. That mental block can come from a number of different sources. Regardless of the source, the result is that you are not able to fully recognize what your passion truly is.

There are a number of reasons you may have trouble realizing what your true passion is. One is pressure from family members or others you respect and admire to pursue an expected vocation or profession. Usually, the vocation or profession is high paying, has a high social status or is a long-standing tradition in the family. They may have the best of intentions, even playing match-maker with you and a career that seems to be a good fit… to them. In this case, your inability to realize your true passion can stem from not wanting to disappoint people you admire or care about. Your desire to make them proud may stifle any desire you may have to do something else.

Another reason your passion may be difficult to recognize is that you may feel trapped in whatever situation you currently are in. To you, the doors for other opportunities are closed. You may even feel trapped by your own lack of confidence in your ability to make your dream a reality. “If there is no expectation, there is no disappointment,” you rationalize. Or, you may not see a way to make it happen financially. This is especially true if you would need to pay for education or training. You may also think that you are too busy, too young, too old, or that it is too late. You do not allow yourself to entertain the possibility of attaining your dream because you do not want to desire something you think you cannot have.

Our amazing minds have the ability to unlock these mental blocks. You can put your mind into the state where the seemingly impossible suddenly seems possible. If the barriers are gone, you will finally see past them and understand what your true passion is. The simple way to do this is to change your “I can’t…” to “What if I could?” Just imagine yourself in a situation where your barrier is now gone. You do have enough money. Your family is supportive of your decision. You receive a scholarship for the training program you need. You have all the time in the world. You are old enough or young enough. You were unable to see your passion because your mind wanted to protect you from the pain of disappointment. Imagining yourself in a situation where you would not be disappointed can help you see it more clearly. Because the reality is that it is never too late. There are no missed opportunities; there is just someone else who takes them. Doing what you love to do is the key to finding success in all areas of your life. Take the time now to find your passion.
I've been given permission to post some of Mary's secrets to success, I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to share these tips and insights with you. Look forward to more from Mary over the next year as I've decided to keep the spotlight on her and her fantastic program!

Happiness is something that you grow inside of yourself and comes from many different areas including the physical, emotional, spiritual, mental, and financial aspects of your life as well as from your relationships, your family, and your community. Unlike being pregnant, as in you just are or you are not, there are different levels of happiness. Some people who already feel that they are happy cheat themselves out of experiencing an even greater level of happiness because they are neglecting one or more of these areas. The key to finding the greatest level of happiness for you is to cultivate success in all of these areas of your life.

The interesting aspect of cultivating one area that you were previously neglecting is that it may affect other areas and contribute to your success in those areas as well. Take the physical, for example. Often people find that when they start to commit to regular exercise and maintaining a healthy diet, it not only positively affects them physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. Improving yourself emotionally and mentally may in turn positively affect your relationships. There is a chain reaction from one area to another and on to another helping you to find greater success in many areas just from focusing on cultivating one. Attaining greater success in several areas that are included in the “context of success” also contributes to having a greater level of happiness overall.

What kind of affect could improving yourself financially have on other areas that contribute to your level of happiness? Think about how your life could change if you suddenly inherited a million dollars. What if you used it to hire a personal trainer or cosmetically change a physical feature that could improve your self-esteem? How would your stress level change by paying off debts, investing and no longer being one-flat-tire away from financial disaster? What if you could go back to college and get a degree or an advanced degree that you previously could not afford? What kind of special, romantic getaway could you plan to build deeper intimacy with the one you love? What great family vacations could you experience that could provide you with memories to last a lifetime? What extra-curricular activities could you get your children involved with that you currently cannot afford? What could you do for your community through charitable contributions or donations? Think about all of the different areas of your life that could be affected by financial success.

Now, imagine the life that you could have if you were to attain financial success and cultivate all of these areas in the “context of success.” Picture yourself living that life. Make yourself the main character in the movie called, “My Best Life Possible.” If you really let yourself fully imagine yourself living that life, you can start to feel how you would really feel if it were real. This is a powerful motivation to start taking the steps to make that dream a reality. This approach is a lot different than a lot of goal-setting, motivational techniques. Instead of just making it a goal to buy your dream house, for example, you start making it your goal to live your dream life. You make it your goal to be the dream you. You only have one lifetime. Why not live it at the greatest level of happiness you could attain for you? Take the time to expand your mental picture of what life could be. Nurture your desire to attain that “best life possible” by replaying this movie over and over again until it turns into a burning desire. Once you have that burning desire to pursue and attain financial success, you will find that nothing can stand in your way and no one can stop you from making your dream come true.

I've been given permission to post some of Mary's secrets to success, I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to share these tips and insights with you. Look forward to more from Mary over the next year as I've decided to keep the spotlight on her and her fantastic program!

If money cannot buy happiness and happiness does not come from just one thing, then where does happiness come from? First of all, happiness is not something you find outside of yourself. You cannot go look for happiness and find it somewhere. Nor can you simply just “decide” to be happy regardless of your circumstances. Happiness is more than just a mental state of mind that you can maintain by controlling your focus (although there are some who do believe that). Even though it is true that your thoughts can affect your level of happiness, they are not the only thing that can affect it. True happiness does not come from just one thing, not even just your thoughts. I believe that happiness is a positive state of well-being with many contributing factors. It is something that you grow inside of you.

What are the contributing factors? Amazingly, many of them we do not recognize immediately because our brains are programmed to focus on what will protect us from pain, discomfort, danger and other threats to our survival. We can easily overlook the “grass and flowers” in the field of life because we are too busy checking each area for landmines. We often do not realize how much something means to us until it is gone. It is very common for us to be unaware of how much something contributes to our happiness unless it is missing. We often do not realize that the love and support we received from our parents as children including the happy memories, the fun, the birthdays, and everything else that was positive also contributed to our foundational emotional experiences that we are still building on today. But just talk to someone who did not have these things. They have a lot less on which to build in that area, and they usually recognize it.

How can success contribute to our happiness? I had attended a seminar a few years ago that defined the “context of success,” and I found it very interesting to notice that the same areas that that were included in the “context of success” were also areas that contribute to our level of happiness. So, success is not just about having a lot of money. Overall success, I learned, is about being successful physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, financially, and in our relationships, our family, and our community. These are also the same areas that many of us take for granted when they are positive. We do not even realize how much they contribute to our happiness in the first place, so it is so easy to mistakenly believe that we will “find happiness” in just the one area where we are deficient. But they all combine together (notice “mental” in the list, so our thoughts are just one area) and all of the areas contribute to our happiness as well.

Another area we cannot overlook besides the mental area is the financial area. Being successful financially does contribute to our overall happiness. But it is just as important to understand that it is an area that does contribute to our happiness as it is to understand that it is not the only area that contributes to it. It is one factor in a group of many contributing factors. You cannot ignore it if you want to find the greatest level of happiness for you, but you cannot completely focus on it and neglect all of the other areas either. The key to this is balance. You do not want to be an Alex Haley who, according to the movie “Roots,” was obsessed with finding the history of his ancestors but lost his current family in the process. You also do not want to live your life thinking that financial success has no affect on your happiness because you think your happiness comes only from more meaningful things like your family. Why sell yourself short? Grow your happiness from all of these areas. Pursue financial success and see how it can contribute to your happiness as well. You may find yourself experiencing a greater level of happiness than you ever thought was possible.
I've been given permission to post some of Mary's secrets to success, I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to share these tips and insights with you. Look forward to more from Mary over the next year as I've decided to keep the spotlight on her and her fantastic program!

When people try to separate success and happiness, they often do so by pointing out the necessity of other essential ingredients to happiness. Sometimes they do this by painting a picture of someone very rich who has everything…but love. A loveless life, no matter how successful, may seem unhappy to most of us. They believe this picture proves that success has nothing to do with happiness. But happiness does not come from just one thing, not even love. I see happiness as a positive state of well-being that comes from a combination of different emotional experiences that lead one to feel fulfilled and happy.

But people get confused about what happiness is when they are missing something in particular that is causing them to be unhappy. They think that when they find this one thing, it will bring them happiness. They get consumed in the pursuit of this one thing and believe that their entire ability to find happiness is all hinged on finding it. Because of this, they equate happiness with the one thing they are missing and overlook all of the other factors that contribute to happiness as well. This is why people can be successful and still be miserable. Success alone does not bring happiness. Neither does any other one thing.

People make the same kind of mistakes in relationships. They think the key to a great relationship is just to find the one thing that was missing in the last relationship they were in. For example, if they are in a relationship with someone who is not emotionally expressive and it causes a lot of problems, they think finding someone emotionally expressive is the key ingredient to a successful relationship. Then they find someone who is emotionally expressive, but they are missing another characteristic that causes even more problems. Then they think this other characteristic is the key ingredient. They do not seem to recognize everything they need in a relationship and then try to find someone who has all of the attributes. A truly successful relationship is not based on just one thing - neither is happiness.

It is a balance of many different aspects of ourselves and our lives that all contribute to positive state of well-being. When all of these things are in balance, we feel truly happy. When one of these aspects is lacking, we do not feel as happy or we may even feel miserable. Life is too short to be miserable. I have now learned that success can give me the ability to change many different areas of my life in ways that can contribute to my happiness. This is why we here at Global Cash Flow Network created the Certified Media Placement Specialist program. We want to show people how to find true, lasting happiness and fulfillment by helping people live their dreams and help them find financial freedom for themselves and their families. Money cannot buy happiness because happiness is not for sale. But success can give you the ability to change your life in ways that can help you attain a greater level of happiness.
I've been given permission to post some of Mary's secrets to success, I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to share these tips and insights with you. Look forward to more from Mary over the next year as I've decided to keep the spotlight on her and her fantastic program!

It has been said that “money can’t buy happiness,” but that is mostly true because happiness is not something for sale. You cannot go into a store and buy happiness. The implication with the phrase, though, is that happiness has nothing to do with money. There is also an insinuation that people who want more money are superficial and are only interested in material possessions. I beg to differ. If you understand what happiness is and you also understand the difference there is between having money and not having money, you will see that there is no contradiction between wanting money and wanting happiness. They are not only not mutually exclusive, there is a relationship between money and happiness. It is more accurate to say that money may contribute to your level of happiness. The pursuit of success may, in fact, coincide with the pursuit of happiness.

There is no one definition of what happiness is exactly. There have been philosophical discussions for centuries about what it is and how one might attain it. Some have argued that it may be attained simply by being virtuous. Others define it as the absence of pain. Others claim it can be achieved by indulging in pleasures. Others believe it can only be found through faith in God. Regardless of the theories, we all know when we are not happy. Most people would agree that happiness itself is not merely a simple emotion like elation or bliss. It is deeper than just a fleeting feeling that may both come and go within a moment of time. But a state of happiness does affect our emotions even though it may not be considered an emotion in and of itself. Because of this, we can tell whether we are in a state of happiness or not by how we feel.

I think of happiness as a positive state of well-being with many contributing factors. It is kind of like soup. There is no one ingredient that could be considered the soup. The soup is a combination of all of the ingredients. Whether or not the soup tastes good or bad depends on the combination. Too much of one ingredient or not enough of another will make an unsavory soup. Likewise, it is very difficult to describe oneself as being happy while undergoing extreme emotional pain, worry, stress, fear or any other unpleasant state of mind. But this does not mean that happiness is merely the absence of negative feelings. These are just ingredients in the soup. Conversely, not feeling enough emotional intimacy, recognition, accomplishment, appreciation, attention or any other basic human need or desire can also lead to unhappiness. Again, no one of these can be said to be responsible for happiness alone. A positive state of well-being is a combination of different emotional experiences that lead one to feel fulfilled and happy.

Money can play a role in both averting some negative emotions and also building positive ones. Success can help change the ingredients of the soup so it tastes better. Living life with enough money to pay all the bills and still put money away for the future is far less worrisome than not having enough. Living life with enough money to work fewer hours and go on vacations is far less stressful than not having enough. Living life with enough money to have the ability to enjoy hobbies and interests is far more satisfying than not having enough. Living life with enough money to get the education and training to do what you want for a living is far more fulfilling than not having enough. A person who wants these kinds of benefits would not be considered to be superficial or materialistic. Although having money alone will not bring happiness, having money can contribute to happiness by giving you the ability to have more positive experiences.

This is why we here at Global Cash Flow Network make it our mission to help people live their dreams by providing the finest education in the world today with our Certified Media Placement Specialist program teaching entrepreneurship and advanced business skills. We want to give the people the training and tools to find the kind of success that can contribute to fulfillment and happiness. Money can’t buy happiness, but it can lead a person to a lifestyle that contributes to a state of happiness. With the right motivations, when we pursue success, we are pursuing happiness, too.
Look forward to more from Mary over the next year as I've decided to keep the spotlight on her and her fantastic program!

What if you struck oil and did not even know it because you did not understand the value of oil? I was thinking about this when I saw the movie, “There Will Be Blood.” In the very beginning of the movie, the main character was looking for gold or silver and “accidentally” struck oil instead. If he did not know the value of oil, he may have just walked away disappointed that he had not found gold or silver and just left it there. He may have thought it was just some kind of black mud.

I think something like this happens when you have been given valuable information or knowledge and you do not fully understand the value of it. You just think you struck mud instead of oil because you don’t understand how to use it in a way that is valuable. Our minds have a tendency to be negative. We are like a car that is out of alignment. If you let go of the steering wheel for too long, you veer off to the left and wind up in a ditch. You have to constantly grab the steering wheel and bring it back to the middle of the road. When you allow your mind to be taken over by your natural negative tendencies, you can look at something as mud instead of oil and lose the value that it really is.

As Certified Media Placement Specialists, our students have the opportunity to learn some of the very same powerful media placement techniques that we use to promote our business. We have a 14 step checklist to guide our students through each media placement technique. Some of the techniques may seem very simple. For example, we teach about setting up an e-mail signature. This is actually a very valuable tool. But some students put it in place, and in the beginning maybe the only people they e-mail is their mom and dad and a couple of their friends. It may not seem so powerful when it is used like this. Then they do not see the value of it. They do not understand that this is the same tool that big companies use when they send out thousands of e-mails to their subscribers. So, someone can think they have mud when they were really given oil.

But when you have used these techniques and found success and you have seen other people use them and you have seen them find success, then you know the value of principles you are being shown. They are not mud; they are oil. Our students can take these same principles they have learned and apply them to any business venture they might pursue. The entire purpose of our program is to teach these principles. It is a stepping stone from there to go beyond that. After our students have completed their certification, they will have an idea of how to do this on their own.

But understanding the value of information all comes down to your mindset. You can train your mind to see value in something or you can just let go of the steering wheel, allow yourself to fall into negative thinking and end up in a ditch. You can miss a great opportunity for success by just giving up on it. I say you should grab your steering wheel and stay on the road. If you allow negative influences from the world around you affect you, you might just be walking away from striking oil because you thought it was just mud.
I've been given permission to post some of Mary's secrets to success, I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to share these tips and insights with you. Look forward to more from Mary over the next year as I've decided to keep the spotlight on her and her fantastic program!

There is a powerful affect that repeating a phrase or statement can have on your mind.
In my household, I have zero tolerance for the word hate. I will not allow any of my children to use that word as far as speaking to each other or to me. If any of my kids says “I hate you,” whether to me or to each other, they have to write one thousand sentences along with a few other punishments. They also have to number each sentence and write out the entire sentence on each line rather than the first word down the page, the second word, etc. That is the idea: to imprint the sentence it into their minds. My oldest teenager, who is almost 19, has only said this one time in her life. She said it once when she was 14, and because she hated writing the sentences and being grounded, she never said it again.

I saw an interesting phenomenon when my son had to do this. He said it for the first time recently to his sister, so he had to write “I love my sister” one thousand times. This happened on a weekend, and after a long time he finally finished the sentences. When he brought them to me, he told me that he had even started dreaming about them. Then a while after that, he was angry at his other sister (not the one he had to write the sentences about) and instead of saying, “I hate you” he actually said, “You are not my favorite sister of my younger two sisters.” So, he actually said something positive in anger about the very sister had previously said he hated without even thinking. This really shows how our minds work. The impact of his writing something a thousand times became so strong that first he was dreaming about it and later it affected the way he spoke naturally.

Think of how you could apply this same technique to affect your thinking. What could you say or write a thousand times that could change the way you think? This could be a great way to keep yourself motivated and interested in pursuing your goals. What is something that is very important to you? Providing for your family? Having a better life? Think of a phrase that you could write down or even say a thousand times that could affect the way that you see life, yourself, or your opportunity to have a success. For example, “I love having the opportunity to make more money and have a better life.” How might that affect your thinking if you were to say or write that 1,000 times? How about, “I love learning something new that gives me the opportunity to make a better life and provide for my family.” You could be even more specific than that. If you love the ocean and your dream is to go on a trip and go scuba diving to see live sea animals up close, then make a sentence out of that. For example, “I love having the opportunity to see ocean animals up close and taking pictures of them.”

Think how it could impact your thinking if you repeated this a thousand times. If you said or wrote that sentence three times a day for a year, that would be a thousand times. If you said or wrote that sentence ten times a day for three months, that would be a thousand times. If you said or wrote that sentence thirty times a day for a month, that would be a thousand times. It sounds like a very simple thing, and it really is. This is a principle that is taught about the success mindset by people who are motivational speakers who talk about motivation and pursuing success. The key concept here is to re-program your mind to control what you are thinking by either writing or saying something that changes the way you think and see the world around you or your present circumstances.

That is a great way to keep your goals in the forefront. Make it a habit. Write out a sentence of whatever it is you want. Then take that one sentence and maybe post it up on your refrigerator or on your bathroom wall where you can see it every day. Make it a goal to say or write it a thousand times. Once you see the effect this has on your thinking, you will want to keep using this powerful motivational strategy.
Look forward to more from Mary over the next year as I've decided to keep the spotlight on her and her fantastic program!

When we are talking about success, wanting success, or pursuing success, the most important ingredient is your attitude. How do you get that correct attitude? Tapping into your deepest desires, your dreams, and tying that in with what you want to do is a very important strategy. In addition to that, the way that you think has everything to do with what goes into your mind in the first place. Think of this like your “factory programming.” This starts very early on, even in the womb, and then after you are born. You have experiences from very early on, even when you were a small child, things you cannot even remember. You have experiences which are internal and external and you absorb them into your mind. You cannot remember any of it now, but it is a part of your fundamental understanding of the world.

I remember hearing about this horrible experiment that happened during the war. Keep in mind that I heard this story verbally, so I cannot verify that it is actually true. I believe it was Germany that wanted to test to see what would happen to small babies if they were not touched at all. From what I remember hearing, they had forty babies and they did not touch them or hold them. They did not do anything but feed them and change their diapers, but they even did that without any human contact. As time went on, some of the babies died. Eventually, all of them died. That is how important human contact is when we are first developing. Even as infants, we need that input. We may not remember being touched and held, but it was a very important part of our developmental process. The thoughts and experiences that go into our minds are a very important part of the way we think and see ourselves. They are also a very important part of how we are motivated to pursue what we desire.

I remember when I was married, I read a book about relationships, and one of the techniques the author recommended was to write down 10 positive things about the other person. Then you were instructed to read those things twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. The author claimed that there was case after case where people would come into his office wanting a divorce saying, “I don’t love him anymore.” But after a month of applying this technique, they would come back and say, “Thank you so much. I’m in love all over again.” For basic relationship issues, this could be a very effective technique. The technique simply shifted their mind from thinking negative thoughts to thinking positive thoughts which changed the way that they saw that person. All they did was simply make a list of positive things and then read it over and over again. They changed their mind by inputting new thoughts.

This would be a positive technique to do no matter what you are pursuing. Start writing down what it is you want to think about it, and then read it or write it on a regular basis. You can change your mind about the way you think or see that issue. What is your goal? What is it that you really want? This is a great way to keep your goal in the forefront. Make it a habit. Write out a sentence of whatever it is that you want. Take that one sentence and maybe post it up on your refrigerator or on your bathroom wall, and say it every day. You will see the effect of that in your life. What you think is what you do. This is a great way to keep yourself motivated to pursue your goals. You will be amazed by the natural result of changing your mind by changing your thinking, and you will also find that it will change your actions.
I've been given permission to post some of Mary's secrets to success, I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to share these tips and insights with you. Look forward to more from Mary over the next year as I've decided to keep the spotlight on her and her fantastic program!

People often think that the key to success is to gain more knowledge. This is like thinking that the key to getting somewhere is just getting a car. There is still more to it. I learned from my mentors that the two main ingredients for success are attitude and action. I also learned that the difference between wealth and poverty is just a little bit. What drives that little bit is your attitude. It is not enough to be in a car if you want to go somewhere, the engine has to be running and it has to be in gear. Having the right attitude but not taking action is like just revving the engine when you are not actually in gear. You are not going to go anywhere. But with the wrong attitude, you will probably never take any action because it is like putting a car in gear without the engine even running. There is no way you are going to go anywhere. Knowledge alone will only get you so far. Your attitude is what is going to drive you to success, not your knowledge, what you learn, or your education.

So how do you have the right attitude? People who have not pursued success have a difficult time understanding why attitude is so important and how to have the right one. The key is to have a goal. And it really does not matter how unrealistic achieving your goal may seem to you today. You could have a goal that one day you want to be a millionaire. If you are into real estate, you could have a goal that one day you want to own hundred properties. If you are flat broke right now and you are renting, that may seem like an unattainable goal. But the goal is like a destination. Before you can go anywhere, you need to figure out where you want to go. You may have no idea how you will get there, you just need to know where it is that you want to go. Once you have your goal, or your destination, then you can start trying to find a way to reach it. And it usually is not easy.

Once you start taking steps to reach your goal, you start to understand that there will be disappointments and set backs along the way. A lot of people do not realize that this is part of the process of reaching a goal. When they have their first set back, they quit. People let their circumstances tell them what to think. Having a set back is like driving down the road toward your destination and running into a washed out bridge. Your destination is not going to change unless you give up on it. But if you decide that you are going to keep the same goal, then the destination itself does not change but your path to that destination has to change. You have to find another way. You cannot let disappointments and set backs affect your decision to reach your destination. This should be your attitude. You should be determined to reach your goal no matter what your circumstances are.

You need to keep your focus on your goal with the attitude that, “I am not going to let anything sway me; I’ll just have to find another way.” That is the right attitude. You have to find another way. In my own experience as a single mother with four kids facing obstacle after obstacle, I took it to an even higher level. Sometimes you have to find a way, and sometimes you have to make a way. The key is to be determined to reach your goal no matter what. That right attitude is, “I don’t know how I’m going to do it, but I’m going to do it. I’m going to find a way. I’m going to make a way.” I remember reading that when Bill Gates first launched the “Windows” program, it was unsuccessful. Rather than saying, “I guess I am not good at creating operating systems,” he decided to find another way. That is so often how it works. You set a goal. You try something. It does not work out. You try something else. It does not work. Finally, you may try another thing, and then: BAM! You hit a gold mine. You will not ever find that final gold mine if you are not determined to keep trying.

That is what happens to a person who has the right attitude. They do not let the set backs or disappointments change their goal. That is the real difference between the truly wealthy people in the United States and those that are not. They refuse to give up on their goals. They have a goal. They do not know how they are going to meet it. They do not know how they are going to do it. No one gave them a game plan. No one is going to set a blueprint in front of you and say, “Okay, here is your road map to success.” And that is very important to understand. Making up your mind that you will reach a destination does not mean that you have to know every step it will take to get there. It is the determination to reach the goal that often causes the path to unfold as you go along. No matter how many training seminars you attend or books you read, you will still have to find your own path. You can get education and tools to help you along the way, but the key to success is your attitude. Having that attitude, “I don’t care what it takes, I don’t care what I need to do; I am going to find a way. If I don’t find a way, I’m going to make a way.” If you have the right attitude by making a decision to reach your goal no matter what the circumstances, then you will be able to find the path to reach your goal.

Education versus Passion-

So many times people think that to be successful, the main thing they need is education. I’m certainly not going to down play education, but many, many people think that is the key to success. Now certainly education is a contributing factor, but it’s not the most important factor. The key, or the main ingredient, to success is your attitude. Attitude is the real determining factor in whether you will find success. When your attitude is driven by your passions, there is nothing you can’t achieve.

My children really wanted to get a cat, but I wear a lot of black clothes. So I told them that we’re not going to get a cat unless it’s black. So, after looking for a black kitten, they finally had a friend whose cat had kittens and one of them was black. So, we got a kitten. It’s been very interesting. This cat is so unique and so different than any other cat that I’ve ever heard of. He likes to climb on my shoulder like a parrot. He likes to lie down right on top of my face when he’s ready to sleep. And he loves to watch the toilet flush. He loves it so much that he’s obsessed with the bathrooms. He has to be in the bathroom with you while you’re in there so he can watch the toilet flush. Then he was so excited about watching the toilet flush that he started trying to flush it himself. Next he started throwing things in the toilet like his cat toys. And then, eventually, he started using it on his own. It’s just really amusing because I didn’t even really try to train him to do this. I’ve heard that there are some kits you can buy that can train your cat to use the toilet. But we did absolutely no training; we didn’t try at all. It just kind of happened on its own because of his own interest.

Similarly, sometimes people do something because they’ve learned how to do it. They got the training. They went through the education. And then other people just kind of stumble on something because it’s a passion or a love and no one really taught them at all. They just learned it on their own. One of the biggest differences between the one method as opposed to the other is that the drive may be much stronger for someone who stumbled on something out of passion than those who just got the training.

In our society, many times people who we think are the most successful, like doctors or attorneys, get to that level of success through education. And people think of them as the most successful people in our nation, and it’s simply not true. The most successful people in our nation are actually business owners and entrepreneurs. These are people who most often started their business with nothing but an idea they believed in, like the Bill Gates and the Warren Buffets of our nation. They are by far the wealthiest of all people. They are far wealthier than attorneys and doctors and other professions. They found that wealth by following their passion and allowing that passion to drive them in a direction toward success.

My cat had no idea what he was doing. He just loves the toilet. He was just playing around with it - stumbled on it. He was just obsessed. We couldn’t keep him out of the bathroom. As a matter of fact, one of my daughter’s friends thought it would be really funny to flush the toilet with the lid shut so he couldn’t actually see it flush. She kept flushing it and he went crazy jumping all over the toilet because he couldn’t see it, and he really wanted to watch it. That’s what happens when you have that passion. You don’t really know exactly what you are doing. You just feel driven.

I seriously doubt that Bill Gates or a Warren Buffet had an exact plan in the beginning of how things were going to happen. They had no way to know for sure if they were going to be successful or how everything was going to unfold. They just had their passion. If you want success in your life, tap into your passion. What are you passionate about? If you let your passions drive your attitude, you will have your engine revved and running to pursue success. Then you just need to get on the right the path.

To learn more about Mary Gersten's program visit http://www.cmpsprogram.com or contact her office at 1-800-719-8270.
